and rehabilitative therapy consisting of the following services:

  • 24 hour Skilled Nursing Care
  • Wound Care with Certified Wound Care RN
  • Wound Vac Management
  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Transitional/Discharge Planning
  • IV/Antibiotic Infusions

Who Qualifies for the Swing Bed Program?

Patients who qualify for Swing Bed must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have a medical need which qualifies the patient for a skilled service.
  • Medical condition must be stable.
  • Must have skilled benefits available.
  • Medicare patients must have at least a three-day consecutive acute care stay before going on the Swing Bed program. This acute care stay may occur in any Medicare certified hospital.

Benefits of Utilizing Swing Bed Services

  • Patients have more time to recover and gain strength before leaving the hospital.
  • A registered physical therapist provides daily therapy, which is centered on self-care skills and body strengthening, increasing a patient’s independence upon discharge.
  • A certified dietary manager is available to work with Swing Bed patients to meet any of their special dietary needs.
  • Each patient’s case is treated individually and catered to their rehabilitative needs.
  • Patients have continued access to their doctor and the hospital’s services.

After a hospital stay, not everyone has the ability or strength to return to everyday living. If you need more time to recover from an illness, injury or surgery, your medical provider may recommend a program referred to as Swing Bed.

The length of stay depends on each patient’s needs and condition. As patients gain strength and independence to return home, they will meet with the transition team to discuss any supportive care and services you may need as you continue healing at home.
